Big tick for Seniors Broadband
1 December 2010
Hall's 'Broadband for Seniors' project has the tick of approval from visiting reviewers. Mr Ron Anderson and Mary Hannan from Adult Learning Australia have been visiting many centres where this community service is being offered.
'Broadband for Seniors' is a federal government initiative to help seniors throughout the community to learn how to use the internet, and have free access to it. So far eighteen seniors (over fifties) have benefited from the Hall 'kiosk', located at The Cottage on the school site.
Eighty year old Wolfgang Wanjura, a long time Hall resident, is one the participants. Wolfgang comments "I have found the experience very helpful and friendly, and have enjoyed researching some history of my homeland, Silesia, on the web".
Credit for the success of the Hall kiosk goes to instigator and coordinator, Bill Pearson, and the volunteer 'helpers' (including wife Andie) who work with him. Those interested in benefiting from the project can book in for hour long sessions of 'one-on-one' tutoring in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Congratulations Bill on this great initiative and the fine work you and the team are doing to help our seniors. Thanks also to the Rotary Club of Hall for funding the telephone connection that the project relies on.
