Rest in peace Millissa
20 January 2011
We record our great sadness at the loss of young Millissa Gillard, and add our wish that she now rest in peace. Our deepest sympathy goes to Derek, Bianca and other family members, and to the friends she leaves behind.
Thanks to the initiative and generosity of a community member, The National Sheep Dog Trials Association has announced through its President, Peter Welch, the establishment of a Perpetual Shield to be known as the Millissa Gillard Memorial Trophy.
Millissa, a former member of the Association, was in fact the only junior member of the Association in its sixty eight year life. She competed in junior handler classes at Trials, and won several trophies.
The new trophy will be awarded to the competitor scoring the highest points in the first round of any of the Maiden, Improver or Open Trials who is working a dog that he or she has bred, and owns. The Pertpetual Shield will be engraved with the winner's name and retained by the Association, while the winner will receive a smaller trophy to keep.
