Yass Valley Council consultation

8 February 2010

More than forty people attended a meeting at the Wallaroo Fire Shed to give feedback to General Manager David Rowe and other officers from Yass Valley Council.

Council reported back on the list of nineteen issues raised at the previous consultation last year. While some issues had been effectively acted on, one or two were pursued with some vigour from the floor. One such matter is the provision of an alternative road out of the Wallaroo district, which could be vital in the event of a very serious fire for example. Overall, it is evident that two way communication between ratepayers and the Council is working.

A number of new issues were raised for consideration in the 2010 - 2011 Management Plan, including provision of lighting at the end of Parkwood Road as a safety / security mater, the need for upgrading of Rochford Road, and the road safety risk posed by large groups of cyclists on the Wallaroo Road.

Feedback from an earlier consultation on the 'Non Urban Lands Study' has caused the Council to pause and rethink their proposals for sub-division constraints in the Nanima and Wallaroo areas. There will be a further consultation on this matter.

Convenor of the Wallaroo and Spring Range Residents Group, Val Wiseman, and Progress Association committee members Alastair Crombie and Judy Roberts attended. It was agreed that a larger venue should be found for the next meeting.
