Restoration Project at 'Allwood'

22 November 2013

On Saturday 9th November family, friends, neighbours and volunteers gathered at 'Allwood' for the opening of Stage One of Judy and Rod Robert's restoration. For the last few years they have been working on one section of this home built by David and Agnes Rule in the late 1800's - a fine example of 'vernacular' slab hut construction. Rod and Judy have worked hard both on the physical restoration task, but also to research the life and times of the building, and those for whom it was home.

Judy comments:"We were honoured to have Greg Rule (Grandson of David and Agnes) unveil a plaque in honour of the occasion. Local musicians from the Monaro Folk Society played a selection of Australian dance tunes creating a wonderful atmosphere for the afternoon.

Rod and Judy have now turned their attention to the second building which is a 'work in progress'. Visitors are always most welcome, but please ring first on 6230 2436 to arrange a mutually convenient time.
