Laurie Copping Heritage Centre visit

5 April 2008

Members and friends of the Australian College of Educators, ACT Branch, joined friends of the Australian National Museum of Education on a visit to the Laurie Copping Heritage Centre at Hall Village.

Elizabeth Burness, story teller and historian is at present the tenant of the Heritage Centre, and has an ACT Government grant to write local history and create illustrations of historic sites and objects.

PhD students are accessing the centre to research projects such as 'Rural Schools in The 1950's'. Dr. Jeffery Burkhart who compiled the inventory of the old school museum told the audience that the biographical profiling completed by Elizabeth Burness on each student recorded on a photo taken early in the century was unique, and was in his terms , 'historical illumination' .

It is the wish of this group that the Hall and district community become actively involved in the preservation and maintenance of this treasure. Please let us know if this is something that you have an interest in, and we will keep you advised of developments.
