Hall Preschool - eligibility widens
6 February 2009
The Hall preschool will remain open this year, and the program is being extended to three year olds - those children who are eligible to attend Preschool next year. The preschool hours are 9am – 1pm Monday to Wednesday.
ACT Education Minister Andrew Barr says the preschool is a satellite site of the Gold Creek school.
"Some of the financial viability issues are covered by its incorporation into the Gold Creek school so staffing issues can be managed across those sites," he said.
"We are committed and made the decision in 2006 to continue preschool education provision in Hall and we would hope to build up numbers in the years ahead."
Mr Barr says the preschool program will be reviewed on a year-to-year basis.
He says enrolments seem to fluctuate widely, with more than 10 students attending the school last year, and the Government would like to see a return to those enrolment levels.
"There is an option under the Education Act for programs to be suspended for a year and then we would look at enrolments in the next year," he said.
"So it's a year-by-year proposition but the Government's commitment in 2006 was to continue preschool provision in Hall and that's our intention."
