Journey into the past

15 February 2012

Four former pupils gathered at the School Museum recently, with the aim of 'reconstructing' the layout of the school and its surroundings as it was 50 - 60 years ago.

Liz Kilby, Bevis Brown, Kaye McCaskill and Anne Gunning shared their recollections for an hour or so, with Curator Phil Robson. Phil is naturally keen to find out as much as possible about the way the school used to operate, as he seeks to recreate the classroom to what it would have been like early last century.

Outside the classroom there used to be a tank, a shelter shed, wash basins, and a fence enclosing a student-made garden in the shape of Australia - all of which are now gone.

It is hoped that they, and other former pupils, will return in mid-April for the Exhibition on 'Bush School of the Hall District', which will throw some light on other small schools, which have disappeared from the landscape.

Our photo shows Liz Kilby, Bevis Brown, Anne Gunning and Kaye McCaskill, at the Hall School Museum on February 15th.
